In 1800, the new parish church was blessed in its current location in the centre of Fasnia (Crta. Los Roques). In its construction, which began in 1796, the usable materials from the old chapel were used, such as beams and roof tiles, which meant that the latter was left unroofed and abandoned.
The church collapsed on 9 February 1918 during a strong storm, leaving it completely ruined; for this reason, after being refurbished, the reduced sacristy served as a provisional church for 15 years, where the religious events of the patron saint’s festivities were held, until the new church was blessed in 1933, after its reconstruction.
This church of San Joaquín (patron saint of the municipality) conserves some interesting pieces from the mid 17th century, San Joaquín and Santa Ana, both in polychrome wood and attributed to D. Francisco Alonso de la Raya, the image of San José from the 19th century which is reminiscent of the school of Fernando Estévez del Sacramento and the image of the Virgen del Rosario, all of which have undergone various restoration processes which have allowed them to be conserved to the present day.
Also of notable value is the first crucified Christ of small wood carving acquired between 1733 and 1738 attributed to D. Lázaro González del Ocampo and the current image of Jesús Crucificado of the main altar, made at the beginning of 1882 by the Palmero image maker D. Arsenio de las Casas Martín.
