A visit to the Dwarf Pine is an invitation to walk along a very striking path, as from the top you can see a perfect view of the whole municipality of Vilaflor de Chasna.
The locals consider it to be the village’s sentinel. The place invites us to rest, in a place where the height, the silence and an attentive observation of the surroundings will envelop us in unforgettable sensations.
This short trail, with a very low degree of difficulty, begins after passing the El Salguero Municipal Football Field, in the upper part of the village of Vilaflor.
The route climbs through a stretch that connects the village with the peaks of the municipality, whose origin could be linked to the pastoral activity of the prehistoric population. On the way there is a small threshing floor behind which the ascent continues until you reach a signpost indicating a sudden change of direction, and from here the path becomes much rockier. The well-defined and marked path climbs up a hill where there is an abundance of slabs or medium-sized flat stones, often used for the construction of shepherds’ shelters, and we can also see some large pine trees.
Along the way there are several areas under the pine trees with tables and benches for hikers to rest, as well as viewpoints. Here we find the Dwarf Pine, a small, straight pine tree with a rounded and rounded crown.
The singularity of this pine tree lies in the fact that it has not reached the normal size of the species, due to the rocky substratum on which it stands.
