The Fuente de Tamaide trail is a great heritage treasure that encompasses the natural and cultural values of this area. Its geographical location, the variety of its geology and flora, the vestiges of the past represented by archaeological and ethnographic remains, and the presence of water make this space an ideal place to walk along the path and through its history. Access to the Fuente de Tamaide, which has existed since before 1849, has been used for human consumption, washing clothes, watering crops and watering livestock, and was an obligatory stop for the shepherds of the Abona region. This path forms part of the Camino Real de Chasna that linked La Orotava and Vilaflor. The Tamaide Fountain is one of the places with the most history on this trail. It is a spring that is fed from the summit, where the water from the rain and winter snowfalls filters through. As if it were a sponge, the ground absorbs and stores it inside to gush forth in springs such as this one. This spring has two original tanks that were used for washing clothes, turning this spot into a busy place where washerwomen and water carriers used to gather. Shepherds also used to keep their livestock in some of the surrounding natural caves, which were used as goat corrals.
