Located on the first floor of the headquarters of the Department of Culture, you can see a large sample of the pictorial work of the Isorran artist Manuel Martín González (1905-1988), considered one of the best landscape painters of the Canary Islands, of national and international prestige.
From humble origins, and being the eldest of nine siblings, he showed a talent for drawing and painting from a very early age. When he was 13 years old, his parents sent him to develop his artistic skills with the sculptor Germán Compaña and the painter Teodomiro Robayna. He later had to emigrate to Cuba in 1923, from where he returned married to Pilar Ramón Mesa in 1932.
The work of Manuel Martín González, considered one of the best landscape painters in the Canary Islands, can be seen in this room located on the first floor of the Guía de Isora Cultural Department, where a dozen works acquired by the Guía de Isora Town Council are exhibited in a room in which the best-known facet of the Isorran painter can be seen: that of landscape painter. This room also contains the well-known paintings of the Teide and the surroundings of Las Cañadas, which the painter endowed with a special atmosphere.
The other room in the museum is dedicated to drawings and posters from the period when the painter lived and worked as a publicist in Havana, Cuba, between 1923-1932, the painter’s least publicised work, but highly valued by critics.
