Popularly known as “Casa la Bodega de los Tavío”, this is a historic building that has been renovated over the years. It originally belonged to one of the great landowners of Arona, José Sierra Pérez, and was bought at the beginning of the 20th century by José Tavío Sierra.
It is set in an agricultural landscape in which, although much modified, it is still possible to contemplate typical constructions of traditional popular and urban architecture, perfectly related to traditional farms, where this building recalls the important wine activity of the region and of the island, famous for the quotations of authors such as William Shakespeare, who speaks of “Canary Island wine” in several of his works, highlighting its properties and its quality as a drink that “perfumes the blood”. Only the main façade of the original building, whose lower rooms contained the wine press and cellars, has been preserved. The rest of the building has been restored, but it still retains its architectural charm, standing out in the architectural ensemble, with the singularity of the traditional agricultural and viticultural uses.
The old winery is part of the historic centre of Arona, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, with the category of Historic Site. In fact, this building is currently used as an Information Centre for the Historical and Cultural Heritage of Arona, as well as for the development of cultural activities.
