Located on the edge of the main road to the south, between the town centre and Tamaide, is a viewpoint with a sculpture that pays homage to the culture and popular traditions of the Canary Islands. It is a representation of El Salto del Pastor.
This piece is a tribute to the era and to the inhabitants of the south of the island who used to travel over the roughest terrain and used it to get around, which ended in a metal part (regatón) so that it could be supported on the ground. In the area, the shepherd’s leap was especially used by goatherds.
The work, created by Raúl Hernández-Canarte Escultores, is designed so that the spectator can move around it. The artist wanted to capture the movement that the shepherd made when he jumped to reach his destination.
The location of the sculpture on a promontory overlooking the region allows us to contemplate part of the coast of the south of the island, as well as several villages, in addition to excellent views of the historic quarter and the Casa del Capitán Museum, located very close to this viewpoint.
