The Plaza de La Paz housed the first municipal cemetery and, although the old burial place has been moved, this space maintains the quietness typical of spaces to remember family members and people who have died, hence one of the first honorees For the municipality of Arona, Eduardo Domínguez Alfonso, who was the first president of the Cabildo of Tenerife (a position he held from 1913 to 1916), has been recognized with a bust located in this square. In ancient times, it was common to use churches as burial places because temples were considered sacred places. At the end of the 18th century, ensuring improvements in hygiene and public health, burial in churches was prohibited, a measure that, on the other hand, reduced the power of the clergy.
In Arona it would not be until the second quarter of the 19th century when the first funerary enclosure was built, but due to the risks it posed for the population, both due to its proximity to the houses and the type of existing soil, a new one was built. Cemetery in Montaña Fría, due to the urban growth that Arona has experienced, has become one of the municipalities with the largest population on the island, with a great tourist boom since in the 50s it was known by a group of Swedes who decided to establish in the coast of Arona the Vintersol facilities, a pioneering health center specialized in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological, rheumatic diseases and post-accident trauma.
