The name that this ravine adopts has to do with its abrupt character, as it is a path ascending through a gorge in the mountain that is increasingly narrow and steep, with a slope that reaches 324 meters above sea level in a few kilometers. The route of this spectacular place, accompanied by the sound of water filtering from the peaks on its way to the sea, runs through a Protected Natural Area located in the municipality of Adeje, in the southwest of Tenerife. Together with other ravines and rocks in the area, the complex constitutes the Special Natural Reserve of Barranco del Infierno, a beautiful landscape of overflowing nature and great biodiversity that is home to numerous endemic species. Among the birds, the eagle, the crow, the kestrel and the Cory’s shearwater stand out. This Natural Reserve, which also has important archaeological value, is home to countless caves with interesting rock engravings.
Currently, in order to preserve the environment and not alter the development of the species that inhabit this wonderful place, access to the Barranco del Infierno trail is restricted to 300 people daily, so it is necessary to request a prior reservation.
