In 1568, before the notary Gaspar de Xexas in San Pedro de Daute (Garachico), the married couple formed by Alonso González and Beatriz Báez appeared, declaring their intention to build a chapel dedicated to Santa Ana in the village of Tamaimo. It was not until 1715 that the first mass was celebrated, and a day later the image of Santa Ana was placed there, followed by the images of Nuestra Señora de La Paz and San Joaquín.
Today, around the church of Santa Ana, built in the 20th century architectural style, there is a large square where the social life of the village takes place, whose festivals and events attract many people from the different neighbourhoods and municipalities in the west of the island. The verticality of the terrain in the midlands of Santiago del Teide meant that the square had to be built on very steep slopes, which attracts the attention of visitors because of the large walls surrounding the square and its church. The village is located on the hill above the cliffs of Los Gigantes and has established itself as the administrative and commercial centre of the municipality, halfway between the rural and rural highlands and the coastal area where the tourist and service activities are concentrated around Puerto de Santiago.
